The Grand Northern Private Reserve

Northern Tanzania, given the time and privacy it deserves.

A flagship private journey designed around what happens when a traveller has enough time to stop rushing.

Length

7 days / 6 nights

Planning price

From $8,940 per person

Route

Arusha · Tarangire · Ngorongoro · Serengeti · Arusha

Vehicle

The thinking

The parks are only the beginning.

Every operator can enter the same gates. The difference is where you stay, how the route is paced, who is guiding, and whether the day has enough freedom for nature to set the timetable.

This journey is designed around those decisions. Before travel it should give you confidence; in the wild it should create wonder; afterwards it should leave you with a story worth keeping.

Best for

  • Luxury first-time safari travellers
  • Honeymooners and milestone celebrations
  • Wildlife enthusiasts
  • Private families and small groups

Not for

  • Travellers shopping only for the cheapest way through the park gates

Straight answer

Seven days should not be seven transfers.

The second Serengeti day is not repetition. It is the point where a safari stops chasing species and starts observing behaviour.

That slower rhythm is the real reserve-level upgrade.

Day by day

7 days / 6 nights, in order

Day 1

Arrival in Tanzania

Private airport welcome, luxury Arusha lodge and a personal journey briefing.

Day 2

Tarangire

Follow elephants through baobab country and end with a sundowner.

Day 3

Ngorongoro Highlands

Travel into the fertile highlands and protect a slower afternoon at the lodge.

Day 4

Crater to Serengeti

Descend early into Ngorongoro, then continue into the open Serengeti landscape.

Day 5

Central Serengeti

A complete private wildlife day, adjusted to current conditions.

Day 6

Deeper into the Serengeti

Stay longer with behaviour, follow the migration when conditions allow and arrange a special bush moment where permitted.

Day 7

Fly out of the wilderness

Take a final drive, then fly to Arusha for the onward connection.

In the design

What the journey is built around

  • Private arrangements and a route built around the confirmed travel month
  • Accommodation selected for position and guest fit
  • Clear inclusions, exclusions and price assumptions in writing before deposit

Subject to season and to how you want the journey paced — your written itinerary is the version that counts.

Why this shape

Why Highland built it this way

To protect the hours that matter: the early light, the patient wait, the second full day in one ecosystem and the transition that does not leave the guest exhausted.

Questions

Before you ask us

Is the price final?
The figure shown is an indicative “from” price per adult sharing. Exact dates, camp selection, seasonal supplements, government fees and domestic aviation are confirmed in your written proposal.
Can this journey be customised?
Yes. The published route is a strong starting point; the final pace, properties and experiences are rebuilt around your dates, interests and party.
Are wildlife sightings guaranteed?
No ethical operator can guarantee wild animal behaviour. Highland improves the odds through season, position, patient guiding and enough time in the field.

The difference

What that actually means in practice

Your vehicle, your guide, your pace
The day can stay with an exceptional sighting because no shared schedule is pulling the vehicle elsewhere.
The route is costed after the dates are known
Season, camp position and aviation change both the experience and the real price; Highland confirms all three before asking for a deposit.

Design decisions

How we built this journey

Time is protected where it changes the journey
A premium safari is not improved by squeezing another park into the same number of days.

The standards behind it

What protects the experience

Where you stay

Accommodation is chosen for position, service and fit with the route—not because it carries the loudest label. The confirmed proposal names every property and room category.

We do not publish a property list, because the right camp depends on your month, your route and your party. Your written proposal names the camps we recommend, the room category and why each was chosen — how we choose them.

Guided by Tanzania knowledge

A private Highland guide interprets behaviour, reads conditions and adjusts the day around the travellers rather than a shared vehicle timetable.

We match a guide to the journey rather than assign one to the booking — the Highland guiding standard.

On safari

  • Your own vehicle and guide, never shared with another party
  • Responsible viewing distances, and a guide who will refuse a closer approach
  • Guides experienced in the specific parks on your route, in the season you travel
  • Emergency procedures briefed before you travel, not improvised on the day
  • A named planner before you go and a duty phone answered in Moshi while you are away

Investment

What this journey usually costs, and why it moves

Signature Private · $5,000–$9,000 per guest

Private road and short-haul journeys through Tanzania’s iconic wildlife landscapes, with strong guiding and intelligent pacing.

Travel month
Migration periods, festive dates and the northern high season carry stronger demand. Shoulder and green seasons can materially reduce the price.
Accommodation
The largest single lever. Property, room category, meal and drink basis all change the real operating cost.
Route and pace
More nights in fewer places may improve the journey; remote regions cost more to reach and supply.
Domestic aviation
Scheduled flights and charters can buy back whole days. They are included only where the product page and confirmed proposal say so.
Party and rooming
Vehicle, guide and fixed logistics are divided across the party. Solo travel, single rooms, family rooms and exclusive use change the per-person figure.
Special experiences
Balloon flights, private dining, specialist vehicles, walking, boating and marine days are costed when they are genuinely part of the design.

A journey-level planning band, not a quote. The written proposal carries the real number for your dates, rooming, camps, fees, aviation and included experiences.

Yours, not ours

How this changes for you

  • Adjust the pace and number of nights in each ecosystem
  • Choose the accommodation level after the route and season are right
  • Add specialist photography, walking, balloon, boat or private dining where operationally available
